Research CME Series: Research Methodology, Data, and Application

This course series equips healthcare professionals and researchers with essential knowledge in research methodology, secondary data analysis, and evidence-based practice. Participants will explore a range of topics, from clinical trial design, quality improvement strategies, and outcomes research, to the effective use of large datasets and advanced data tools such as R.

The arrangement of the courses, some formerly part of Research 101 and Research 201 series, is updated regularly to continually introduce emerging PA/PA student researchers to key skills designed to advance their research goals.


Learning Objectives


At the conclusion of these activities, participants should be able to:

  • Recommend resources for research supports, such as data sets, for PA-focused research
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance as well as pros and cons of using different secondary data sources
  • Reflect on the ways that research improves patient care and clinical outcomes
  • Describe how to apply the latest evidence and research to make informed decisions and enhancing patient care outcomes
  • Recall the definition and purpose of quality Improvement
  • List the fundamental principles and identify the various tools and methods used in quality improvement, clinical trials research, outcomes research, and others
