Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a gut-brain disorder characterized by abdominal pain and disordered defecation. Although it is one of the most commonly identified gastrointestinal disorders worldwide, complete understanding of the disease pathophysiology is still evolving. Because of this, newer treatment options are continuously under development and clinicians require ongoing educational opportunities to remain up to date with best diagnostic, management, and treatment practices. This program aims to increase knowledge and competence in these areas to assist PAs in enhancing overall patient care for patients with IBS.

• Assess patients with signs and symptoms of IBS efficiently and effectively using evidence-based recommendations
• Select appropriate pharmacologic treatment options for patients with IBS based on disease subtype and current recommendations
• Discuss appropriate dietary, lifestyle, and behavioral interventions for patients with IBS.
• Identify patients with IBS who would benefit from referral to a specialist
