Genetics Series: How Genetics Can and Should Fit Into Your Practice: A Non-Genetics PA's Perspective

Genetics can and should fit into daily PA practice, and it can be accomplished through improving the skills which PAs already have in their wheelhouse. This activity also prepares PAs to discuss how to address concerns patients may have regarding genetic testing, privacy, and dealing with genetic testing results.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Analyze 3-generation pedigrees and learn how to obtain them
  • Identify resources which can assist PAs with obtaining a targeted family history for possible genetic causes of disease
  • Describe patient motivations and concerns regarding genetic/genomic testing
  • Review common presentations in primary care/specialty offices of disorders with genetic underpinnings
