Building Pathways in Pain Management: Treating Osteoarthritic Pain: A Case Discussion
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disorder in the United States. The aging population and obesity epidemic will likely increase the number of people affected with symptomatic OA. As the population ages and the prevalence of OA continues to rise, clinicians find themselves struggling to manage pain and restore function associated with these conditions. This case-based activity goes beyond first line treatment to discuss various pharmacological options available, emerging treatment options and criteria to help individualize care.
Learning ObjectivesAt the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Confidently assess and manage patients with OA
- Choose appropriate pharmacological treatments for patients with OA when indicated
- Individualize treatment of patients with OA considering various co-morbidities
