ENT for the PA-C 2019: Abnormal Audiograms in Ear Pathology

This activity provides a framework for audiogram interpretation and correlation of test results to otologic conditions. This review of many abnormal audiograms helps the learner take a systematic approach to reading audiograms to narrow the differential diagnosis and prompt appropriate additional testing when needed. It covers normal hearing, Meniere's, SSCD, third window phenomenon, otosclerosis, sudden sensorineural hearing loss, malingering, and other abnormalities.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Identify all aspects of a standard air and bone conduction audiogram
  • Interpret an audiogram accurately to discern sensorineural, conductive, or mixed hearing loss
  • Narrow the differential diagnosis for a presenting hearing loss, based on audiometric findings
