Case Studies in Insomnia: A Collaborative Approach to Managing Insomnia in the Elderly

This case-based activity consists of four sections on the diagnosis and management of older patients with chronic insomnia.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Describe common presentations of insomnia in elderly patients.
  • Recognize, medical, psychiatric, pharmacologic, and environmental factors that contribute to chronic insomnia.
  • Identify the most appropriate first-line chronic insomnia therapies for individual elderly patients and second-and third-line treatments along with adjunctive measures, based on clinical recommendations.
