Case Studies in Insomnia: A Collaborative Approach to Managing Insomnia in the Elderly
This case-based activity consists of four sections on the diagnosis and management of older patients with chronic insomnia.
Educational ObjectivesAt the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe common presentations of insomnia in elderly patients.
- Recognize, medical, psychiatric, pharmacologic, and environmental factors that contribute to chronic insomnia.
- Identify the most appropriate first-line chronic insomnia therapies for individual elderly patients and second-and third-line treatments along with adjunctive measures, based on clinical recommendations.
