Obesity Leadership Edge: Module 1 - New Approaches to Adult Obesity and Overweight

Obesity is a chronic disease that results in multiple complications and yet is rarely addressed in a systematic way in healthcare. This module is one of seven designed to prepare PAs to effectively care for patients affected by obesity and part of AAPA’s curriculum known as Obesity Leadership Edge.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to: 
  • Define obesity as a chronic disease and compare it to other chronic diseases. 
  • Describe the pathophysiology of obesity and its medical consequences.
  • Articulate a leadership role for PAs in providing care for patients with overweight and obesity.
  • Use the Wagner Chronic Care Model as a framework for organizing care of people with overweight and obesity.
