From Hospital to Home: Managing AKI: Ensuring Successful Post-Discharge Follow-Up - Interactive
Post-hospital management of acute kidney injury (AKI) focuses on ensuring recovery and preventing recurrence. This presentation will enhance knowledge and understanding of the key steps to successfully management post hospital AKI including: follow-up appointments, lab monitoring (serum creatinine, electrolytes, and urine output), medication review (adjusting or discontinuing nephrotoxic medications and optimizing doses of other medications), patient education (importance of hydration and nutrition along with signs and symptoms of kidney function decline), and preventative measures such as addressing underlying comorbid conditions, i.e. HTN and diabetes, as well as avoidance of nephrotoxic medications. By the end of the presentation, participants should be able to recognize, manage, and follow up with patients with AKI effectively, ensuring continuity of care and reducing the risk of complications.

Disparities in Dermatology: Improving Visual Recognition from Book to Bedside - Interactive
This activity will highlight current and historical data pertaining to dermatologic healthcare disparities impacting people of color. Beginning with the basics, hair and skin types will be reviewed along with how physiology contributes to skin and hair health. This session will discuss common dermatologic conditions seen in people of color, contrast how common dermatology pathology presents across the skin spectrum, and provide current disparities experienced by communities of color. For example, despite the fact that there is a higher incidence of melanoma in white patient, Black patients have a higher rate of mortality from melanoma due to delayed, and less accurate, diagnoses. The faculty will also discuss how people of color are underrepresented in medicine; they are under-researched and underrepresented in medical curricula. The session will conclude by highlighting tools to improve early and accurate diagnoses of dermatologic conditions in people of color and supplying strategies to improve provider bias.

The Status of HIV in 2025 - Monograph
This activity will provide an update on what every PA needs to know about HIV in 2025. While HIV medicine has evolved significantly during the past four decades, over 35,000 HIV infections occur annually in the U.S. The epidemiology continues to change with infections disproportionately affecting residents of southern states, people of color, and sexual and gender minorities. Clinical guidelines incorporate screening for HIV into routine medical care. Prevention continues to expand with increased utilization of antiretroviral-mediated prevention, including preexposure prophylaxis and treatment as prevention, with new long-acting injectable medication options. Long-term survivors face new complications, including certain cancers and inflammatory-mediated disease. While HIV can be considered a chronic disease, the societal stigma surrounding this disease requires that providers approach HIV with a unique perspective. Cases of long-term HIV remission continue to provide hope for a pathway toward a cure.

Clinical Approach to Preventing Suicide: An Introduction
Over 40% of individuals who die by suicide visit a primary care or other medical provider in the weeks before their death. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce and highlight a comprehensive approach to suicide risk assessment and suicide-specific clinical management. Despite the prevalence of suicidal ideation, there is currently no standard content that integrates how to approach and navigate conversations with patients about suicide, how to support patients during these conversations, or how to empower patients to stay safe and engage in collaborative treatment plans. Education on this topic is often brief and combined with other content, resulting in persistent discomfort and uncertainty around this important public health problem. This novel program demystifies how we engage and care for patients living with suicidal ideation which will lessen stigma, enhance patient-provider interactions, and improve health outcomes. Preliminary program pilot data will be shared during the presentation.
