Clinical Informatics is the field that promotes understanding, integration and application of information technology in healthcare settings. This course will show you how informatics has grown as a discipline with the changes in Health Information Technology over the years, from EMRs and Meaningful Use to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Anecdotes, jokes, and even social media memes poke fun at the concept of politics at work, but all jokes aside, there is evidence-based proof that politics in healthcare organizational leadership exists. From funding projects to adopting clinical practice changes, politics plays a key role in implementation and change success. New and emerging healthcare leaders will encounter roadblocks that require advanced political savviness to navigate. With significant competing interests across disciplines and executive departments, the ability to build relationships, influence change, and execute action plans will require strong alliances. The purpose of this lecture is to review the importance of political savviness in the new and emerging healthcare leader and develop methods of improvement.

Congratulations you are an Advanced Practice Provider leader! How do you elevate your role beyond just a seat at the table? This talk will review key strategies for personal leadership development and building a coalition of APPs and other key stakeholders to support your vision for APPs in the future. This will include lessons learned from the pandemic that have opened new possibilities for innovative health care delivered by APPs. The time is now to capitalize on the momentum and demonstrate APP impact through data collection and patient-centered metrics.

Conflict is normal within teams and provides an opportunity for creativity and growth. Approaching challenges and differences with mindfulness will empower us as leaders to engage effectively. We will explore the 5 fundamental conflict engagement styles and the relative benefits of each, supporting participants in determining which is their default style. Participants are encouraged to bring a conflictual case from their own work to practice applying a mindfulness approach. We will explore the ARTful (Ask-Respond-Tell) strategy of conflict engagement through humble inquiry, then empathic reflection, followed by sharing our own perspective with a focus on shared goals.

Despite the abundance of leadership resources widely available, no two leaders are identical. We have introverts vs. extroverts, creators vs. influencers, visual learners vs. hands-on learners, and the list goes on. A truly effective leader understands not only the foundational principles of leadership but also understands one's own identify and preferences. This cannot be achieved by simply reading a textbook, studying peer-reviewed articles or even attending leadership forums. In order to effectively lead, one must be aware of his or her own emotional intelligence, psychological preferences, conflict resolution style, and more. This enlightenment not only allows the leader to identify and cultivate one's strengths, but also sheds light on one's opportunities for improvement. By equipping ourselves with this essential toolkit, we can tap into our full potential, lead with enlightenment and accelerate growth.
